The 2017 Southern Pain and Southern Headache Societies are collaborating together to present their combined annual meeting. We will examine controversies in chronic pain and headache management affecting healthcare practitioners. Attendees will be provided with practical, exportable solutions that can be immediately implemented in their daily practice. Basic science research furthers understanding, while clinical research potentially offers clinicians new tools or approaches for the treatment of headache and chronic pain patients. Drawing from both scientific and clinical research, this meeting will focus on recent advances in the field of chronic pain and headache management as well as areas of interest including interventional approaches, regulatory changes, psychological impact and disability. The curriculum is intended for participants with fundamental as well as advanced knowledge of chronic pain and headaches. The focus of the meeting is on clinical topics such as prevention and treatment of migraine and cluster headaches, CGRP, opioid management, abuse deterrent and guidelines, invasive and interventional techniques, and environmental, lifestyle and psychological components of chronic pain and headaches. This year the conference is pleased to have keynote presenter, William Maixner, PhD, DDS, who is the Director for the Center for Translational Pain Medicine and Professor in Anesthesiology at Duke University. His approach to research and clinical practice for the complex patient will be enlightening for the entire audience.
